DEFINING INNOVATION

BENCHMARKING BEST PRACTICE

RECOGNISING SUPPLIERS
Stimulating diversity in the supply chain
RECOGNISING PEOPLE
Promoting active contributors to culture change
The Rail Innovation Group is a community that brings together the best skills & experience from the rail & tech industries. Our engagement across the rail sector has shown that there is a requirement to benchmark what can be classed as true innovation coming into the supply chain. Additionally, there is a desire to recognise those people ensuring that new, diverse ideas are adopted within the culture of the industry. We have developed the Recognised Innovation Scheme to endorse suppliers & people who have:
  • contributed to our mission of promoting modern, efficient rail system.

  • demonstrated an ability to create a seamless journey experience.

  • adopted a customer-centric approach & committed to sharing that approach with the wider industry.

DEFINING INNOVATION
Our definition of innovation is drawn from our Founding Members, each of whom was invited to submit their thoughts when they joined The Rail Innovation Group. We have collated them into a definition that we believe recognises those aspects which contribute to The Group’s mission. As these definitions are peer-generated, recipients are assured that recognition is an endorsement from the industry as a whole.
PEER ASSESSMENT
Applications for the Supplier scheme & nominations for our Culture scheme will be  assessed by our peer group made up of a representative from:
  • the Strategy Board of The Rail Innovation Group
  • a start-up/SME Member
  • the Young Rail Professionals
  • our partner, Hitachi Rail

- or -

In most cases, the problem will have been defined by the end-user but truly innovative products discover their niche.

CULTURE

The Rail Innovation Group has observed that many people within the rail industry act as champions of innovation & culture change but their actions are often overlooked. Recognising these behaviours will enhance their professional status & help to create new role models. A person recognised for cultural change would:

Approach problems with a willingness to challenge tradition & be open minded to new concepts that don’t always have a proven track record.

Cultivate & embrace diversity to derive benefits from new technologies or processes, or from using them in a better way.

We welcome nominations from Members & non-Members across the rail industry. The nominee will not be contacted until recognition has been approved.
